What is the February Birthstone?

The February birthstone is one of my favorites – amethyst!

Found in every corner of the world, I’m sure you’re familiar with it’s purple hue.

February Zodiac: Aquarius and Pisces

Depending on when the day lands, the zodiac sign for February falls under one of two zodiac signs. First up, there is the air sign Aquarius (Feb 1-Feb 18) which tends towards traits such as intelligence and and idealistic view on life, or the water sign Pisces (Feb. 19-Feb 28) which are said to have a strong creative disposition, strong sense of empathy, and a laid back attitude.

February is an unusual month for a couple reasons. Not only is it the shortest month of the year, but it’s the only month that holds an extra day. This arises every four years, during a leap year. This creative astrological trick was implemented as a corrective measure to align our calendars with orbit of the Earth. Essentially, this little change maintains our method of recording time in the calendar year, and keeps our seasons consistent throughout the years.

When you’re looking for gifts for February babies out there, amethyst demi-fine jewelry is a perfect way to show your love and appreciation.

Let’s take a closer look at this beautiful gemstone!

What is Amethyst?

Amethyst is an abundant resource on earth, and can be found in every corner of the world.

This beautiful gem is in the quartz family and is the purple variant of the stone. It’s said to be a soothing stone, has the potential to reduce fear, anxiety, and balance moods.

The name originates from ancient Greece, where it was thought that the stone would protect its owner from intoxication.

It’s a favorite among crystal lovers and jewelry enthusiasts alike, and can be found in colors ranging from the faintest lavender to the deepest violets. The most valuable amethyst in the world will showcase the deepest of purples with a slight red undertone.
